SBA Chief Economist Chad Moutray has released a working paper called Looking Ahead: Opportunities and Challenges for Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses. The paper was prepared for presentation at a conference in mid-October.
The purpose of the paper is to outline important issues facing small business owners and entrepreneurs and the policy issues the next administration will face. The key challenges Moutray outlines are:
- Strengthening the overall economy
- The impact of taxes and regulations on small business
- The cost and availability of health insurance
- Issues around attracting and retaining quality talent
- Global competition
Moutray also discusses 5 broad small business sector opportunities:
- Technology driven small business innovation
- Economic gardening and regional development creating new jobs
- Small business globalization and exports
- Greater diversity among small business owners and entrepreneurs
- Improved business education and training
As with all SBA research, the paper provides detailed footnotes and references to related data and information sources. There is both a summary and full report.

Thanks for the plug of my research. I am glad that you enjoyed the paper. I will add your blog to my personal blog's links (see moutray.wordpress.com).
