Shashi Bellamkonda has a great post on the Smartblog for Restaurants on his tax-free lunch plan. For those who don't know Shashi (probably unlikely if you're reading this - it seems like pretty much everyone in the small business and social media spaces knows Shashi), he the social media swami and director of social media for Network Solutions.
His plan is simple. Key quote from his blog post:
"President Barack Obama and Congress could join together to pass a law that allows any taxpayer spending $1,000 at restaurants in 2011 to write off that amount."
This plan would:
- Kick-start the economy as people go out more
- Create jobs to serve (literally and figuratively) increased food demand.
- Not cost much and be more effective than many government programs.
- Incent me to try some new restaurants in SF.
I'm in. Take a look at his post for more details.

I agree. It would be a nice respite form taxes. The income will be used for purchase of items that will help the economy.

Considering this, it would seem that steps taken to entice restaurant goers could go a long way to help kick-start the economy.
