I was reading GigaOm Pro's Global Mobile Subscriber Forecast and noticed that by 2015 the world will have quite a few more global mobile phone subscriptions than people.
As the chart below shows, GigaOm is projecting that there will be a bit over 8 billion global mobile subscriptions in 2015. The UN is currently projecting global population in 2015 to be about 7.3 billion.
Looking at the two sources, it looks like 2013 will be cross over year when global mobile subscriptions exceeds the world's population.
BTW, I'm a big fan of GigaOm Pro. The content is excellent. I've been a paying subscriber since they started and it's a steal at $299 per year.
