Sprinkles Cupcakes, credited by many as the originators of the cupcake bakery trend, has invented a cupcake ATM (shown on the right)
It's basically a standard vending machine with an ATM-looking cover - but hey, 24 hour access to cupcakes is a great idea.
Zagats has a video showing how it works.
This is just one of many interesting new food delivery technologies we've run across in our food truck research. Beyond the cupcake ATM, our other favorites are:
1. The Tacocopter (pictured below) is a hoax but still an interesting approach to mobile food. My guess is regulatory issues - they need both FAA and food permits - will keep the copter grounded. But if not, sign me up.
2. Burritobot (pictured below) is real. It's a 3D printer that makes burritos. Popular Science has a video showing it in action. There's even an accompanying iPhone app for ordering your burrito.
I'm not sure the burritobot has much of a commercial future. But it's a good example of pretty sophisticated technology - 3D printing - being applied in an innovative way.
