The Two Sides of MBO Partners: Things May Not Always be What They Seem is an interesting article from Andrew Karpie from the Staffing Industry Analysts. It provides a detailed look at Emergent Research client MBO Partners.
And while we're always happy to write about our clients, the main reason I found the article interesting is the focus on how technology is changing nature of work arrangements. Key quote:
Like the trend of enterprises toward more flexible workforces and the trend of many workers toward professional independence, information technology is viewed as the other driving trend — the one that actually enables the flexible, independent work arrangements of the future.
The author calls MBO Partners a "work arrangement intermediation platform" that share traits with the online staffing firms like oDesk and Elance. This is a mouthful, but I agree. Our research on the rise of the independent workforce makes it clear technology is one of the key drivers of this trend.
Technology is enabling firms to be more effective in hiring and managing independent workers (freelancers, self-employed, etc.) and providing independents more work opportunities.
Staffing continues to be an inefficient process for most businesses. As staffing related technology continues to improve these inefficiencies will be reduced - helping both hiring firms and workers.
