AMI Partners recently released a study on small business ecommerce. AMI defines small business as businesses with less than 100 employees. The study points to a boom in small business ecommerce. Key quote from the press release:
"There’s a boom in e-commerce revenues generated by small businesses (SBs, or commercial companies with up to 99 employees) in the United States, with gross receipts doubling to US$213 billion in the last twelve months. In addition, the number of SBs that have embraced e-commerce has crossed the one-million mark, up some 13% from a year ago."
Other items of note in the release:
- Nearly all of U.S. SBs have at least one PC and internet access, while 8 out of 10 of them are using high-speed connectivity. two thirds of US Internet SBs have a website.
- This is higher than other studies report, but certainly in the credible range.
AMI also reporst that small businesses are under pressure from customers and business partners to automate their purchasing processes.
