Marketing Charts has a post on the year over year surge in seniors 65 and older visiting career development web sites. Key quote:
"The number of unique visitors age 65 and older to career development websites grew 41% year-over-year, increasing from 2.5 million in January 2008 to 3.6 million in January 2009."
The data comes from Nielsen Online.
Increased workforce participation by seniors is a long term trend we've posted on in the past and cover in more detail in the Changing Faces of Entrepreneurship research report.
The long term drivers - increased life spans, healthier seniors and broad interest in continuing to work past the traditional retirement age - are being augmented by the current economic downturn and its impact on senior finances.
Below is a chart from our prior post showing the long term trends. Our view is senior workforce participation rates will continue to grow over the next decade.
