The local news company, Rockville Central, recently stopped publishing new content on their Web site and instead is publishing on Facebook.
We've posted in the past on the growing trend of small businesses replacing traditional websites with Facebook. We get a lot feedback telling us this isn't happening and isn't going to happen, but we keep seeing more and more examples.
And because we keep seeing new examples, we continue to think that over the the next 5 years Facebook is going to become the primary web presence for roughly half of all small businesses that are online.
This does not mean all of these firms will get rid of their traditional websites. It means Facebook will increasingly be the primary online place will interact with their stakeholders, and their traditional website - if they keep it - will be of secondary importance.
Depending on Facebook alone may have negative effects on the company or the website. It is good to use Facebook to promote your business but I think it's not good enough to make your business bigger. Let's see if Facebook will be able to host different websites. There are no impossibilities.

I think in time most companies will go to this strategy. But i think having a website still has its merits.

I could see the attraction. It's not practical to completely remove your own business site, though. I haven't seen restaurants in Norwich follow this trend, either.

Facebook is a powerful website that you can really use to promote your business whether it is a small or big business. I agree, I think Facebook will be the best social media in the next 5 years that will cater websites for business purposes.

Facebook has been developing from time to time and has been improving drastically. There are many businessmen who entrust their business to Facebook. I just hope that Facebook will give them the return of their investments in a much faster way.

I disagree. I think small businesses should focus more on their own website more than Facebook and center their content there because their site will not rank if they don't have fresh content.

I wonder what will happen to Facebook after 5 years. I think most small businesses will opt for Facebook over a website cause it's free.

Probably not the most brilliant move to do ...
Who knows where Facebook will be in 5 years ?
Their website is the place where they can consolidate and own the content.
(You probably could read Chris Brogan about this)
