Regular readers know that one of my favorite resources is Nielsenwire, a blog from the famous market research firm.
I like it because the information is excellent, the articles are timely and they provide a lot of cool data for free.
Their article Getting to Know (and like) the Social Mom covers recent research showing that "“social moms” (defined as females with at least one child who actively participate in social networking) are quite influential."
The chart below (from the Nielsen article) shows how much more active Social Moms are than the online population in general.
It wasn't that long ago that the term "Soccer Mom" was created to describe the powerful role suburban mothers play in politics and economics.
I'm not sure the term "Social Moms" is going to eclipse "Soccer Moms" - I think it sounds too much like a bad, R rated movie. But this term is an yet another example of the She-conomy and the growing role women are playing in the global economy.
Thanks for the info. Whenever I am writing online content and there is a woman around, they always say the same thing: "that is not going to appeal to women!" It's something I know I have to start being more cognizant of.
