Breather is a startup providing hour by hour access to private offices. The goal is to give folks who are away from their home or office a place to "meet, work or rest".
All of the spaces include a couch, a desk, Wi-Fi, and electrical outlets. The picture below is from Breather's website, so I assume it's what at least one of their offices looks like.
Rooms are found and reserved via the Internet using a browser or smartphone app. Breather has partnered with Lockitron, which provides a service that lets users unlock doors using their cellphone. This means you just walk up to the office door and your cellphone will let you in.
The company recently raised $1.5 million and is currently in an "invite only" beta mode. You can request an invite on their site. So far there doesn't appear to be any info on what Breather is going to charge.
Breather is going after what is referred to as the "touchdown space" market.
Generally speaking, most users of touchdown spaces spend a limited amount of time per visit and choose the space based on proximity to where they going after touching down. At touchdown spaces users tend to do light work tasks (surfing the web, getting caught up on email, meeting prep) and/or meet with 1-3 other people and/or relax.
The most popular touchdown spaces today are, obviously, coffee shops. Breather is hoping to change this, or at least take a bite out of this market.
