Gartner released their 2013 and 2014 computing device shipment forecast and it will come as no surprise to readers that mobility is driving computing device purchases.
As the Gartner chart below shows, traditional PC shipments forecast to be down are 10.6% in 2013 while tablet (up 67%) and mobile phone shipments (up 4.3%) are increasing. The same trends hold true for 2014.
The key quote from Gartner is about the growing role mobility is playing in consumer computing device choice:
"Consumers want anytime-anywhere computing that allows them to consume and create content with ease, but also share and access that content from a different portfolio of products. Mobility is paramount in both mature and emerging markets,” said Carolina Milanesi, research vice president at Gartner.
