Based on our site stats, we have a loyal core of readers who love pet trends as much as we do.
So this group will no doubt want to be updated on the acquisition of Whistle, a maker of "Fitbit for dogs" devices, by consumer products giant Mars. The dog below is wearing one of these devices.
Tech Crunch recently reported Mars acquired Whistle for north of $100 million.
Key quote on Whistle's products:
Whistle’s GPS Pet Tracker makes it easier to keep tabs on your pet’s fitness, with a collar that monitors steps: Know if your dog walker gave Fluffy a good workout by checking in with Whistle’s connected app ... Whistle’s activity trackers help you set your pet’s fitness goals, track progress and compare stats to other similar dogs. The location-sharing could also help you find your dog if it ever gets lost.
Key quote on why Whistle is excited to join the Mars family of companies:
“Mars Petcare and Whistle shared a core belief around the importance of pets in our lives, and we look forward to connecting nutrition, healthcare, and technology to improve the lives of pets and their families.” Mars owns popular pet brands including Pedigree, Whiskas and Iams.
Alert readers will remember we covered Whistle in our 2013 post on the quantified dog.
This acquisition - and especially the acquisition price - shows the continued growth of the pet humanization trend and the growing role technology is playing in the lives of pets.
