So many new AI buzzwords, so little time.
"Synthetic media" is media (text, pictures, videos, etc.) that is produced, in whole or part, by some form of AI technology.
Synthetic media has been around for years. But not surprisingly, the publicity around ChatGPT and generative AI has dramatically increased the creation of synthetic media and the term's usage.
The NBC News article AI-generated 'synthetic media' is starting to permeate the internet covers the good and bad of synthetic media. Key quote:
"The question some AI researchers say they are grappling with is whether AI-generated content is enhancing internet creativity or squandering it."
The article references the firm UNEEQ, which is "an artificial intelligence company, developing the most advanced autonomous digital human platform available for customer interactions ..."
Their URL is digitalhumans.com.
UNEEQ provides "personalized digital humans" designed to be used in customer service and support roles.
These digital humans are AI chatbots with an AI-generated human as their user interface. These digital human chatbots interact much like humans do.
The picture below shows the digital human Kate answering a support question (the Bot, BTW, looks, acts and talks like a human).
Generative AI - and ChatGPT in particular - has resulted in a seismic shift in the creation of synthetic media. And expect much, much more in the future.
For example, we used two forms of AI to write this article - ChatGPT helped with the first draft and Grammarly with editing.
And if we can do it, anyone can.
